 1951 Ford Convertible

BROWNSTOWN, Mich. -- The Roam'n Chariots Car Club held its 9th Annual Cruise & Show for Henry Ford Hospice Downriver Team at Brownstown's Civic Center / Thorn Park on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Each year the show draws an interesting mix of cars from antiques to brand new models. And with food and soft drinks for picnicking, the show has always been a family affair.

Trophies given out at the show included a Joyrides Choice Award presented by The Detroit News Online to a 1951 Ford convertible owned by Kathy and Sandy Wezner of Lincoln Park. The car is powered by a '73 Mustang 302 Ford engine.

Sandy Wezner, who works for Allen Park Schools, said the car's appeal to him was that it's a throwback car, not like the newer muscle cars. "Mustangs are like belly buttons," he said. "Everybody's got one." In fairness, it should be noted that his '51 Ford has Mustang power.

Suitable music for the show was provided by DJ Fred "Boogie" Brian.

The Roam'n Chariots club also holds a regular Friday night cruise at the Sears story on Dix and Southfield in Lincoln Park and a Wednesday night cruise at Ecorse and Monroe roads in Taylor.
